It was with great sadness that GLF learned of the passing of GLF Member John Bruton, who had been a Member of GLF since 2018.
First elected to the Irish parliament at the age of 22 in 1969, John Bruton served as Minister of Finance, Minister for Industry and Minister for Public Service, before becoming Prime Minister in 1994 as head of a coalition government. Much admired by fellow leaders in many countries, John Bruton played an instrumental role in the Northern Ireland peace process, and the Anglo-Irish Framework he launched with John Major in 1995 paved the way for the Good Friday Agreement.
